White-tailed deer near monitoring well

ETE’s wildlife cameras have been hard at work capturing some of the critters bounding around the Picayune Strand State Forest in Collier County. We have 60 water level monitoring wells and transects established throughout the forest, and these cameras give us a better idea of the actual wildlife utilization.

Species that the cameras have picked up include white-tailed deer, turkey, gray squirrel, barred owl, Florida black bear and wild boar. The cameras are motion-activated and capture still shots as well as videos.

Take a look at the rare sighting below (pay attention to the left side of the frame)!

Wildlife cameras are a useful tool in observing animals and their behavior without disturbing/scaring them off. You never know what might come around! Stay tuned to keep up with the action!
