Clam Bay Tide Gauge and Well Updates
In early July, two ETE ecologists repaired tide gauges in the Clam Bay Estuary and checked the water level monitoring wells. Tide gauges are important tools to gather data on the changing tide heights. Changes in tide can have impacts on the health of mangroves and hydrological functions in the area. The monitoring wells are used to record changes in water level over time. It can show important changes based on rainfall and hurricanes, and how those changes impact ecosystem function.
While out in the field, they observed egrets, mangrove crabs, brown pelicans, the three species of mangroves, and the beautiful birds at the rookery!
