Look at the two images above. Can you determine which one is a wetland?

They both are!

Wetlands are important features in the landscape that provide numerous beneficial services for people and for fish and wildlife, including protecting and improving water quality, providing fish and wildlife habitats, storing floodwaters and maintaining surface water flow during dry periods. They are protected in Florida.

When clients request a wetland determination, our ecologists will first research the property using databases and aerial imagery to see if it is likely to have wetlands. Next we will conduct a site inspection to verify whether regulated wetlands are present using vegetation identification, soil analysis, and the presence or absence of hydrologic indicators. If wetlands are present, we will establish their general extent and location and determine the different state or federal permits that may be required. We will provide you with a report and we can assist you with obtaining permits or designing a site plan if you plan to develop on a property with wetlands.
