Cape Coral Burrowing Owl Survey

Recently an ETE biologist conducted a burrowing owl survey on a site in Cape Coral. Nesting season in southwest Florida starts on February 15th and goes until July 10th. The survey found one burrow was already marked with one adult and four juveniles observed. These birds are listed as state-threatened, due to habitat loss from urban development.

If you see owls on your property:

  1. keep a safe distance to reduce disturbance. They come out during day, especially during nesting season.
  2. Reduce use of pesticides and herbicides.
  3. Reduce use of heavy equipment by burrows to reduce collapse.

If you have burrowing owls on your property and are looking to develop, feel free to contact us. We are happy to help you obtain the proper permits and conduct the appropriate procedures to protect these lovely birds.
